A 4-Night Escape at Cameron House on Loch Lomond – How it was

[elementor-template id="7747"]

I’ve always believed that Scotland has a way of sneaking up on you: mist curling off the hills, lochs that look like they’ve been painted into place, and a kind of stillness that makes your phone feel out of place in your pocket. After four nights at Cameron House, right on the banks of Loch Lomond, I’m convinced it’s one of those rare hotels where the setting and the service try to outdo each other.

Arrival & First Impressions

The drive from Glasgow Airport was barely 30 minutes, which was perfect because I was itching to get out of the rental car and into something resembling a Scotch. The hotel itself feels like a baronial mansion with a James Bond upgrade. (In fact, they actually filmed Bond here—Sean Connery would approve.) Walking into the lobby, all wood paneling, tartan touches, and the smell of polished heritage, you realize immediately: this isn’t a place to just sleep, it’s a place to linger.

The Room

I had a loch-facing suite. Waking up each morning to that view of Loch Lomond—mist rolling, boats cutting across the still water—was a Scottish screensaver come to life. The bed itself was dangerous in the best way: oversized, with pillows that tried to smother me into a coma. The bathroom had a rainfall shower and a tub positioned so you could (if you didn’t mind a little steam on the glass) look out toward the loch while soaking.

Dining & Drinks

Cameron House takes its food seriously. “Loma” was the star of the show for me—modern Scottish with finesse. One night I had venison that was so tender I suspected it had been massaged into submission. Breakfasts were hearty enough to qualify as lunch (and possibly dinner too, if you overdid the black pudding). Even the hotel’s casual options hit the mark, and the whisky bar is the kind of place where “just one dram” is a bold-faced lie.

Activities & Amenities

I split my days between indulgence and effort. The spa had just undergone a facelift, and it shows—sleek pools, a rooftop infinity pool that makes you feel smugly superior while you soak, and a thermal suite that could sweat the stress out of a bank manager.

When guilt set in, I tackled the Carrick golf course. I’m no Rory McIlroy, but wandering through those rolling fairways with mountains looming in the background, even my lost balls felt poetic. On another afternoon, I traded clubs for boots and walked along the lochside trails, which felt like stepping into a postcard.

Service & Atmosphere

Staff at Cameron House walk that fine line of being attentive without being overbearing. They seemed to remember my preferences by day two (apparently my reputation as “the guy who orders sticky toffee pudding twice” spread quickly).

The atmosphere is tricky to capture: at times, it’s grand and formal, but then you find yourself by the fire with a whisky and realize it’s just as good at being cozy.

Final Thoughts

After four nights, I left with a suspiciously heavier suitcase (I blame the whisky) and the sense that Cameron House is a little stage where Scotland plays all its greatest hits: the loch, the golf, the food, the tartan, and the quiet moments by the water.

Would I go back? Absolutely. In fact, I’m already planning my excuse.
